SIMON ANKE | SOLO PIANO
The piano and I have a long history together.
Growing up, I spent hours and days improvising, passing time and as my soul-wellness. The piano and I became a professional team. We started playing solo piano nights in little bars and jazz band gigs at small local clubs with varying fellow musicians.
Over the years the little cosy piano bars became bigger venues with corporate events, weddings and noble dinners. Playing with young jazz bands had changed to professional touring artists and bands like Keimzeit, Jocelyn B. Smith, Tina Tandler, Angelika Weiz, Fady Maalouf, Veronika Fischer, Filmorchester Babelsberg and Dirk Michaelis. I also had started to write, produce and release music as a collaborator with singers and film and corporate music projects in my own studio.
BEFORE WE THOUGHT ABOUT IT
In 2022 I turned forty and realized how long it has been since I just sat down at the piano and played what the fingers would like to play. It became obvious to me that despite the accumulated musical knowledge and experience I missed just to play for the sake of playing. This brought me back to my roots: seeing the piano as a playful mate. With no explicit goal, creative concerns or expectations in mind.
So back to what the fingers want to play - but this time hitting record. That's how my Solo Piano EP series BEFORE WE THOUGHT ABOUT IT started in 2023.
